We brought Habibati to a pet shop. She instantly was attracted by these cute little fellows...the rabbits, mice and hamsters. When it was the time to leave..Habibati was reluctant to go away. She was stuck there. She likes rabbits the most. We had a hard time to make her leave the pets. Then back in the car, my hubby decided to find a pair of bunnies for the kids. There are the local ones sold here...which are cheaper than the exported ones sold at most pet shops. But yet I still haven't give a 'positive nod' to this proposal....

This morning we went out very early to PGGMB office and then to Le Apple to buy something for my cupcakes. Then, I found the 'gingerbread man' cookie cutter there. Not only that...the multi-coloured bread was also available here. I was so happy...!

MY MOM'S TOUCH OF LOVE

I like to see my mom's plants. She takes good care of the plants all by herself. She wakes up early every morning and visits her growing plants around her house compound. I think that's why her plants grow well because they are showered with her tender loving care. I snapped some of the pictures of the plants. So lovely...so nice.....and this point I admit that I really ENVY her....!

MY KIDS' CUTE SNACK TIME....

I made some cute shapes of the bread by using the biscuit cutter/shaper. I received a very positive response from my darling kids. I served the 'shapey' breads on one plate only at first..but...it was not enough. They cleaned them up in less than two minutes.
They asked for more...then I happily made some more and arranged the 'shapey' breads on two different plates.

Now I know...the fun shapes have added some "attractiveness " to the plain bread taste. My kids must be bored with the typical shape of the bread slices, thus, they often can't finish even a slice of the bread. But not anymore....

My next plan ---> To hunt for the multi-coloured bread loaf sold at TOPBAKE...and see how will they response to this one.

The Pai Tee Recipe

This is the recipe for making Pai Tee that I promised to share with you guys..so have a go with it and good luck.....

Ingredients:

1 packet rice flour

750ml coconut milk (from 1 coconut)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tbsp kapur ( for crispy texture)

1 tbsp castor sugar

1 egg

Method:

1. Mix well all ingrediants, leave aside.

2. Heat the mold in hot oil.

3. When the mold is hot enough, dip into batter and deep fry in hot oil.

Garnishing/Filling :

This is my version...

Stir-fry the chopped prawns with garlic and ginger, dash some oyster sauce. Pop in the grated carrots and some onions. Then add salt and pepper to taste.

Sauce ingredients:

(mix well together and cook for a while)

Chilli padi

Shrimp paste

Peanuts (fried without oil and blended)

Some tamarind juice

Sugar and salt to taste

Another Birthday Celebration At Granny's House

Habibati's birthday was again celebrated at granny's house. This was granny's wish so we could not say anything yea! Nobody was invited though..only my family members. I made myself Habibati's birthday cake . I frankly was not satisfied with the outcome...especially the Pooh's part. But when I asked Habibati what was on the cake? She replied to me "Pooh Ummi!" Phew!! Happy me...(at least she recognized it was Pooh)
Habibati loved to see her cake. Even when we took some family pictures, she just couldn't stop looking at her cake...it should be because of that Pooh! Grandparents presented her with a gold necklace..thanks again grannies!

We love you Habibi and Habibati....hugs and kisses...!

The Grandma's Day Care

Tomorrow the kids will be having their grandma as their caretaker. One of my maids has gone back to Indonesia because she often complains about her sickness, to be precised "gastric". I actually wish her to just wait till the end of year since the kids are schooling by January next year. On the other side of the coin, we do not want to hold a risk keeping this maid longer. So, this late afternoon she left Brunei for good. So, my mom offers to take care of the kids when we are working. Thanks ma. At this stage, we still could not leave the kids alone with only one maid to look after them because it would be a chaos. At least when my mom is around, our minds will be at peace...at work.

Habibi And His Favourite Cartoon...

Habibi likes to watch the Play House Disney Channel. He will fight his sleepiness just not to miss the shows. Sometimes, when his sissy is already asleep, he will wake her up so that they can watch together thier favourite cartoons. It will be unbearable when both of them stay up fresh till late night to follow up all the shows...first Dibo then followed by Mickey Mouse Club House then comes up next My Friends Tigger and Pooh then pops out The Little Einsteins...! Ummi and Ayah will certainly become a pair of "pandas" with black eye bags! LOL

Darling Habibi might be bored because Habibati was asleep already...just have a look at his boring face! Then, he grabbed the remote control and manipulated it. In various styles...he sat on the sofa...till his eyes turned droopy. Quickly I put a pillow on the sofa so that he could relax and slowly zzzzz....zzzz....

My Very First Trial - PAI TEE

My new project late this afternoon, making Pai Tee or 'top hats'. I have been searching for a paitee mold quite a long time ago. It is not anywhere to be found here. Luckily my jobmate, MummyHannan, offered me if I wanted the paitee mold. Of course I gave a big yes to this one. MummyHanan's husband went to KL and bought one for me too (free of charge...bunch of tnx!!!).

So I had a go with the recipe taken from this book.

I thought it was an easy job but NO! I made so many ugly pai tee cases at first and faced a problem that I could not get the pai tee cases off the mold easily. Another problem..the pai tee cases quickly turned dark brown. I nearly gave up. However..I'm craving for these tempting top hats! But after going through several trials and errors...I finally made some good outcomes.

Below is the filling of the pai tee...stir-fried prawns and carrots with some dashes of oyster sauce. The pai tee mold is shown here too.

These are the pai tee that I have made with the filling inside. The taste? mmmm.....yummy..crispy......

P/S--->To MummyHanan and hubby...tonnes of thanks for your generosity to charge me freely for the pai tee mold yea *winks*. It's true MummyHanan...as you have said...lau tedapat banyak mold atu lagi tah siuk tu mbuat pai tee ah...heheeeee....*hint*hint*

MATO THE CAT

My sister in-law loves keeping cats. She would do anything for her cats. Yesterday when we gathered at my parents-in-laws' house, she showed us her very shy cat. Its name is Mato. This cat has 'kalimah' Allah in Arabic on its black and white fur. Pretty amazing yea....

An Icy Treat..

We love soft ice creams. Here, there is only one mobile soft ice cream vendor which is called Mister Softy. I was craving for Mister Softy..so out we went to hunt for 'him'. So lucky, we found 'him' at his favourite spot, the wet market parking lot in Gadong.

Just have a look at the above picture of the soft ice cream. I chose the chocolate and vanilla flavours. Soooooo....cool...soft...not-so-sweet....irresistable....yummy!

I just shared the soft ice cream with Habibati. She loves it too. Then, Ayah bought another one for Habibi who stayed at home at that time because he was asleep. Reaching home, Habibati straightaway found her brother who was already awake. She generously handed him the ice cream to him with love....

We went to the vegetables market and bought some vegies and tomatoes later this afternoon. As we got into the car, I took one of the tomatoes (of course I washed it first) and enjoyed my every heavenly bite of it. Habibati saw me and asked for it too. I let her made her first bite and guess what ?...she really fell in love with the fruits. She asked for another one by saying " Ummi..adik toh" for several times. LOL...

Birthday Cuppies For Amal

Habibati's Birthday Voucher

Later this afternoon , we went to Mothercare to claim for Habibati's birthday voucher. The validity of the voucher was by today...mmm...what a forgetful Ummi I was...!

It was actually too hard to choose because most of the clothes on display were lovely. In the end, we decided to buy this newly arrived two-set gown with a hat by Humphrey's Corner design. The original cost was BND59.90 and we just paid the remaining amout of BND49.90 with the BND10 birthday voucher. We were given a go-green bag to support the campaign to save the Earth.

Then we headed off to Kayu Nasi Kandar for dinner. I chose Mee Mamak Seafood, my hubby ordered Nasi Goreng Kampung and Habibati had Cheese Prata.

Our Little Garden

Gardening is one of our hobbies. My hubby is considered to be a green-finger person because plants grow well under his supervision. But what seems to be the matter is .......TIME!! As for me, I like gardening too but ever since we have been having the two growing kids...we had to put this hobby aside. Everyday routine...working and back at home...giving more attention to the kids...because we as parents (globally all parents) do not want to miss the valuable experiences...bonding time...watching them play, learn and grow. Now that they are growing bigger each day...and we decided to get ourselves back into this gardening matters.

So these are the pictures of what are growing in our little garden.......

This chilli plant is different from the ordinary ones. The fruits are very minute and round. However the degree of hotness is VERY VERY HOT....me myself do not dare to eat...

This winter melon plant can bear so many fruits..that is why we like to plant this one. There are six seedlings growing here and if the plants grow well...surely will bear many winter melons.

Spinach is my favourite. I like the 'all red' spinach. But at this stage, the greatest enemies are the garden snails and the moon snails. The galangal plants (lengkuas, in Malay) is commonly grown here because most of the Asian cuisines include galangal in their recipes.I sowed the cherry tomato seeds and after three days the seeds turned into seedlings already. Happy me.....
Aaa....this one is the grape vine. It has been growing for almost fours years now. Don't be surprised...the plant stays like this. It has not produced any fruits yet. I believe this plant cannot really adapt to the climate here. But I have eaten some of the locally grown green grapes in my jobmate's vineyard. The grapes look delicious and juicy but of course SOUR!

This is called the birds' cherry tree. It is true by its name...because the chance of seeing the ripe red cherries is always NARROW. Birds love to eat the sweet red cherries. The tree is very shady and very aromatic.

These are my mini orchids blooms. At this time, only this four orchid species bear flowers. They are so lovely....

It's The Pool Time!

Our Sunday afternoon was filled with this fun activity. The weather was very bright and hot so we set up a pool outside the house for the kids to have fun with water. This was their first time to play in the pool outside. The pool was Habibati's birthday present given by my sister. One thing I forgot was to buy the kids' swimming suits. What the heck??? The fun had to go on...so I asked the maids to get the kids wear these singlets only...hehehee...Sorry darlings...Ummi will buy them tomorrow okay....

These are my favourite pictures. Both of them could successfully pour the water. For me, this was a very good practice especially with their motor skills as well as to learn how to focus.

Last Tuesday, I made these cute mini cuppies for my brother and his jobmates. And I have more orders for this and the next weekend. I declare that these were my very touch of love...they were baked with love.....as well as designed with love.....

Extra Class...

Here in Brunei, the first term school holiday has just started from the 20th March till 29th March. But for me...and some other teachers work during the holiday.

I am having my mathematics extra classes for the Year 6 A, B and C pupils. It lasts for 2 hours from 8 to 10 a.m. I deeply hope my pupils will be able to get good results in the upcoming PSR Mathematics first trial which will be held in the second week of April.

The Kids' Sunday Activities

We did not have a specific plan yesterday. So after the breakfast..I went outside and had a look at my orchids which I had not talked with for quite a long time. I pruned the long and extended roots and gave some love talks to these fellows....so that they would grow healthier and bear more flowers. Too bad...I forgot to snap the pix..!

While I was spraying water to these orchids...I didnot realize that I had been actually observed by my curious kids from behind. Then as usual...they asked for the water sprayer and tried to manipulate this 'cool' thing! I let them play with this thing..and when they successfully managed to spray the water out..they laughed aloud. They learnt something about the water sprayer and enjoyed their happy hour together...

Then in the afternoon, my hubby brought Habibi for his haircut. Since Habibati was still having her afternoon nap, I joined them to the Indian barber. This time Habibi didnot cry but still didnot cooperate with the barber very well. So Ayah had to snuggle him while his hair was being trimmed.

Then, we sent Habibi home because he was feeling uncomfortable. Now...the sissy was already awake and insisted on joining us again. It's her turn. She was happy as Ayah treated her with an icecream. Actually this is her very first time! She seemed to like it to the fullest...but Ummi won't let you eat it often ya darling!

The Saturday Night Dinner

I made this for dinner.

It is simple to do and if you would love to try it..here we go with the ingredients.....especially for the lamb lovers!!

500-600g of lamb

BBQ (original) sauce

Dark sweet soy sauce (any brand will do)

Maggie Tomato sauce

Maggie Chilly sauce

Maggie Oyster sauce

Sliced or cubed

Some carrots, onions and potatoes

Pounded and made into paste
Ginger(halia)+galangal(lengkuas)+Tumeric(kunyit)+lemon grass(serai)

How to make?

So easy...just marinate the lamb with all the ingredients for an hour.

How to cook?

Slow cook it and let it simmer for 45 minutes (at a very low heat) until the meat is tender. We don't have to add more water because the natural juice from the lamb meat will make up the gravy...

Now I have time to do this tag...but yet still so many are pending too! I got this from MummyHanan..with a message "sorry for the delay"..but i found this very fun-to-do...

Frankly..I'm not the updated type of person when it comes to movies. I am a bit selective...and would not miss the chance to watch the movies especially when starred by these naturally beautiful J Lo, Julia Roberts and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Nevertheless...I also find these 3D cartoon movies very romantically amazing. I am starting to love and collect all the Barbie's DVD movies for the sake of my little princess. I have seen Shrek and Shrek2 but these movies are not suitable for kids as there are quite intimate scenes. Barbie movies are OK. Who to tag? I would not specifically choose someone to do this tag..but anyone who are interested...please do so...

Our Wednesday Afternoon At The Toy Fair

Our favourite Hua Ho Mall is having the toy fair and so many toys are exhibited. Our actual aim to go there was to do our little grocery shopping but nothing could stop our little hero from enjoying himself at the exhibition. He was very much attracted to the toys (of course!!) and strongly magnetized himself there. He climbed onto the motorbike himself and did not want to let go of it. So lucky, there was a security standing by the entrance. My hubby suggested him to scare Habibi so that he would let go of the bike. Our plan worked out well! LOL

My hubby bought Habibi a robot (although he owned one already). He just couldnot wait any longer to hold the robot. Do you notice his stretching hand?

Then, after all the toys were paid off, Habibi insisted to bring himself the robot! How funny he was!! We bought the sissy some toys too..a culinery set and a musical iron.

And of course..we had our early dinner at the food court there too. I had an appetite for a Labenese meal at Sbinati Kebab. I had my yummy shwarma chicken with seasoned chips and my hubby chose the chicken shwarma rice. Habibi had the shwarma rice only.
While waiting for the meals to come...Habibi had his scribbling time with Ayah. Then arrived the meals.....yum yum yum!!
We were eager to go home (and we knew Habibi was too!) to show the sissy the toys. She was happy to the fullest and even brought the toys to sleep. Wanna know the condition of Habibi's robot now?

Jeng..jeng...jeng....(take a deep breath yea..!)

Oh...poor robot!

The poor robot could only survive for less than half an hour....!!

Dinner By My Hubby..

I was being a lazybone this afternoon....as my love-to-cook hubby promised to cook dinner for me. As soon as he came home from work, he went straight to the kitchen. This loving chef was preparing his favourite 'lamb fried rice with spinach'....I love this too! I contributed a little helping with the preparation. The ingredients are chopped lamb, spinach, some sliced carrots, some celeries, chopped onions, garlics and shallots.

To enhance the taste of the fried rice...he put in these SERI AJI packets.

...not to forget....the company of the soothing hot lemon tea.

Our dinner was very simple but supa-dupa delicious...a bunch of tnx honey!

Habibati's 2nd Birthday

On the day of Maulidurrasul, we celebrated our princess' second birthday anniversary. It was merely just a family celebration. Here are some snapshots on that day....

On that very day, Habibati was too clingy and as always...very afraid of the others.
Now, Habibi..he was enjoying his 'feeding' time..Any time! Any place!Being very affectionate towards the grannies!The birthday hi-tea menu comprised the beef spaghetti, seafood fried noodles, tuna pizza, creamy choco cheese pudding, chicken mayo sandwiches, rainbow jelly, bingka durian tapioka and sausages. My darling hubby cooked his special and delicious lamb fried rice.

Clingy Kids....

Hi everyone....

I haven't had the right time to blog as both of our kids are having fever. Habibati is having the mouth ulcers and rashes on her body. My hubby and I are shocked at first, thinking that it is the Hand Mouth and Foot Disease (HMFD)...but thank God it is not. Then, Habibi too...caught by the high fever too but he doesn't develop any rashes and the mouth ulcers. So..our weekend was a sticky one!! Due to their conditions...they are very cranky...clingy...so the best medicine is to pamper them with.....

Praying for their speedy recovery...dear apples of our eyes...

I made these birthday cuppies for my cousin's son, Ihsan. He is gonna be a terrific three this 25th February. I frosted the cuppies with butter icing and the flavour of the cake was totally chocolate. I am happy with the outcome....and I'm gonna make some again for my darling daughter's birthday...coming soon.

It seems our Fridays have always been our 'family's day out'. We went for a simple grocery shopping. I planned to make some cup cakes for the 3rd birthday of my cousin's son, Ihsan, next week. We brought along the kids and our two maids.

In the car.....they were very attentive to the surroundings and easy-to-manage.....

They looked so adorable and funny when we placed the both of them into the trolley with their fancy fans! But my shopping had not started yet ..though!

Whoosh! Shopping was quite an impossible one as the kids kept on bugging around to buy this and that! Hahhaa..

The above picture was an exhibition by Maggie. We were attracted to this gigantic maggie mee replica. Nice and creative yea...the coloured ropes acted as the noodle and the rest were totaly made of sytrofoam only.

After the shopping...we dined out but without the kids and the maids. We sent them off home and got some take-aways for them only. We went to our favourite South Indian and Arabic Nadj Restaurant. The deco of the restaurant was very simple but what I liked very much was the design of the top of the dining table....which I thought would match our furniture at home very well.

Our ordered meals were Lamb Fried Rice (for me) and Chicken Briyani set(for hubby). These would not complete with the presence of the hot lemon tea and milk tea...mmm..alhamdullilah...

This morning I made onion fritters for our breakfast. I have tried this before but it is the dip that made this recipe new to us. Usually we just used the chilli and tomato sauce as the dip. Now the mashed sardines!

A Mathematics Project

I integrated the arts and crafts into my mathematics lesson today. The pupils had a group project which was making the models of solids. It was a great day..they enjoyed the stress-free lesson. Some of them were very creative and came up with very colourful solids. They even wanted to try out this activity with their siblings at home. That's a good sign of their positive attitude towards Mathematics. I took some snaps of them on-task...but...most of them were very shy...hehhehee...

Our Simple Dinner

For the dinner just now...I managed to prepare these. A very simple dinner of course. I had the Staff Development Programme in the afternoon..so went home around 4.30 p.m. Since the time was limited already and I forgot to ask my maid to thaw the frozen fish so canned squids would do! I just pan-fried them with my favourite pinky 'bunga kantan' which had made the dish so aromatically delicious. The green sawi was also pan-fried with some shrimp paste and lastly the ulam pengaga with its sambal 'membangan'. Sooo..simple...sooo delicious...for the busy ummi like me!

Opps...not to forget..I managed to make some potato pasta cheese pie for the craving-for-pie lady Zhoe..hope she will be happy tomorrow...

My Mathematics Lesson

This morning..my mathematics lesson was a fun one..which was also easy to teach...and more important....easy to be absorbed by the pupils. The lesson was on 'Solids'. They carried out a group activity of identification of the solids. Time flew very fast when we were having fun. So tomorrow they will make their very own models of solids.

Our 'Still-Nursery' Home

Our home sweet home is still like a nursery. I hope things will get back to normal when the kids start schooling by January next year. We have to minimize the decorations to ensure the kids' safety. They love to climb stairs, thus my hubby bought and fixed himself the ready-made barrier to enable them from going up the stairs.

The baby room is loaded with toys and 'vehicles'. As other kids, they are loaded with toys and 'vehicles' which sometimes are left untouched as they are easily bored. So dizzy to think where to store the toys..the playpen is the solution! I surely think our maids must have a hard time to get these toys organized...and in the end of the day...Habibi especially will become the spoiler!! LOL

My cousin had come back from her family vacation in Singapore. She bought the kids the famous Marks and Spencer Mini Animal Biscuits. They are too cute to be eaten. My kids named the animal biscuits before crunching them...mmm...yummy..crunchy....! We are awfully glad when the kids can recognize the animals such as cat, owl, horse, elephant, turtle, sheep, hipopo, duck, tiger and lion. Too bad...that there is no M&S store here in Brunei...

We went to Qlap Mall last Friday to fullfill my urge to buy Victoria Secrets' ultra moisturising hand and body cream at Shop@Sarahs. I chose Delicate Petals. Love the scent to the fullest! The ingredients from a Secret Garden ...avacado, sweet almond and calendula oils. The scent is fabulous...tangerine, velvet rose and musk.

Then, we had our afternoon break at Jollibee..the kids' favourite eating spot. Habibati wouldn't miss the chance to pose with the cheeky Jollibee. Habibi had run away somewhere there with Ayah making it impossible to snap his shots.

Friday Afternoon...

We went to Giant this afternoon without the kids. Our intention was to look for the kids' daily wears there. For us, Giant is a good place to shop for the 'daily wears' as the prices are considerably OK as long as the kids are comfortable with their clothes. I liked the tops which were sold in two's for only BND5 something. I then matched them with the colourful long pants which came in two's for less than BND6.

Then we had our late lunch at Giant Food Court. I ordered Sizzling Beef Rice with Mushrooms whereas my hubby's choice was Thai Fried Rice. Both of these dishes were fingerlicking good and it would not complete without the presence of the hot lemon tea for me and the ginger milk tea for my hubby.
The course was continued with our desserts ......the fancy-coloured donuts which cost only BND6 for a dozen of them. Sooooooo yummy... just look at these.....

Craving For.....

I'm still having my cough. I think it's because of not taking the proper medication. I don't take the prescribed cough syrup accordingly as I don't like the effects...being so drowsy! Then the coughing has been making my larynx inflammation even worst. I just take some citrus juices to make it better. Eventhough I'm still not feeling very well, my appetite is still considered superb! I let go my cravings for the yummy wet kue teow at my favourite Azmee Restaurant Gadong. The dish was paired with a glass of hot lemon tea to soothe my larynx inflammation. The wet kue teow was heavily garnished with lots of vegetables which really suited my taste. I enjoyed my afternoon tea here....

A Little Shopping at Hua Ho

Before heading off to the children's granny's house, we had a little shopping at Hua Ho to buy some breads and snacks for the tea-time there. Since the kids were lately bored with rice then I bought them their favourite Jollibee spaghetti. Here, we like to bring the kids along because they could push their own trolleys...while shopping. They looked very cute with the mini trolleys..

The Landslide at Telanai

Yesterday, the houses around our area experienced a 6-hour blackout due to the damaged and collapsed substation by the landslide here. It was roughly from 5 p.m. till 11 p.m.

Till today we are stll provided with the power supply form a generator set (the helpful red truck from the Electrical Department..tnx guys!). It was reported that it would take up a week for the department to get the substation back to normal. So we are pretty much dependant on this powerful Mr Red Truck...

This morning, my hubby walked to the affected location just to witness the damages caused by the landslide. He took some snaps and showed them to me. It is actually about 150 metres away from our house which is just right in front of our main gate.

Thank God..our house is not located at the edgy hillsides..as one of the unlucky houses here got the garage collapsed as shown below.

Hope everything would go fine here...amin..

Today I'm on my medical leave and I still feel like having another one tomorrow..(how I wish I could..). I'm feeling sort of heaty still. The whole family members are having high fever and larynx inflammation. I think it is due to the unstable weathers here. Our dinner is simply fabulous (adjusted with the current situation)...mackerel fish soup and pan-fried bean sprouts. Whenever I'm sick, my appetite will be a bit strange, I will always go for Chicken Flavoured Instant Noodle. And that was what I had for breakfast this morning. I hope I could gain back my normal voice real soon.

The standing eggs during an eclipse...a myth?

Here in Brunei we experienced a partial solar eclipse at 4.42p.m. until sunset. At my place, it was not very obvious as the weather was already dull and wet just now. It was reported that the solar eclipse passed across the Indian Ocean and West of Indonesia.

Talking about the eclipse, I have heard before about the standing eggs. I have read about this so many times before but have not had a chance to experiment it. I learned that an egg could stand upright on its end due to the gravity of the earth during the eclipse. So I carried out an experiment with an egg first on the table in the kitchen. It took me few minutes to make it stand and the result was nil. Then I changed position..down on the kitchen tiled-floor. Wow! in less then a minute, I could successfully make it stand on its end. I even tried with three eggs and they did. Pretty amazing yea...

However, when I googled up just now..some articles said that the 'standing eggs phenomenon' is just a myth...some said that the eggs can be standing upright at any time of the day...

Nevertheless, I will try again at any time, on any day...because being curious is good right?

The Baked Cheesy Pasta With Tuna

I planned to treat my jobmates with these...

I woke up early...tiptoed silently...downstairs to the kitchen...

With all my heart...I prepared them...all by myself..

Then,

I was running out of time! It was 7 a.m. sharp and I was again late for the school assembly!

So,

I asked one of my maids to have a look at some of the pasta cuppies that were still oven-baked.

I said to myself,

It's ok..I would go to work first then come back home for a little while to take these pasta cuppies to school again.

Very unlucky,

that the traffic jam wasn't due yet..

But the lady named Zhoe was so lucky that she agreed to convoy with me home at 1p.m. and got herself 15 pasta cuppies. Dah rezeki dia...

Nevertheless,
I enjoyed my lunch....a mug of hot milo and a cup of the baked cheesy pasta with tuna...all by my myself!

Habibati likes to follow me praying. She always whines about wearing a 'telekong'. She wants to put on one too. I told my hubby about this. Then my hubby reminded me about the 'telekong' given by Angah Balqis on her very first birthday. Straightaway I looked out for it in the wardrobe and yes! I found it. I asked my maid to hand-wash it.So lucky...that...the 'telekong' fits her very well. The colour fits her soft skin very well...mmmm...pink! I feel touched when she utters sofly a prayer...only Allah knows whatever she is praying for...amin...we love you for eternity sweetie...

Cheesy macaroni is one of my kids' favourite treats. The best part of it is actually the melted cheese. Habibati would leave behind some of the pasta but not the yummy melted cheese. Syukur alhamdullilah, our little hero is fine now..just a little bit of cough. I only give him the cough syrup whenever the cough is noticed.

The weather here in Brunei is very wet...it has been raining cats and dogs for couples of days and some places are experiencing flash floods. Hope to see more sun rays in these few days ahead. Talking about the weather...my kids love these songs very much..

Kek Batik Nestum

I was the mood of making a cake this late afternoon. I planned to bring this cake tomorrow to school if it really looks yummy when I cut it into 'bite-size' cubes tomorrow morning. The recipe was actually given by my collegue Cikgu Habibah and I had successfully made this cake for few times before. The ingredients are almost the same as the typical Kek Batik but the difference is that we use less flour and put more Nestum Cereals.

First, I put 6 eggs and 250g butter in the mixer. Then, poured in half can of the condensed milk. Let them blend well together for about 5 minutes at medium speed.

Then I popped in 2 spoons of super fine flour (Hong Kong Flour) and followed by the 300g cereals. After that I put the mixture into a big bowl and and then I added 300g Milo powder.

Next, I transferred the mixture into the non-stick pan and I cooked it while continuously stirring it till it became just like a sticky dough. Then, I scooped a few spoons of the cooked dough and put it into the baking can/tin. Then I pressed the dough firmly and arranged the marie biscuits on every layer as shown above.

I was just being over-creative...and innovative ...I topped the cake with some hazelnut chunks and milo powder sprinkles. I kept this cake in the fridge overnight. Hope everything is ok so I can serve the teachers without shame...!

Catching Cough and Cold

Our little hero is having cough and cold. It has been going on since Saturday. The unstable current weather here might be one of the causes of this unwellness. At school, there are many pupils on their sick leaves and I might be bringing the virus home..(but I won't touch my kids if I haven't had my afternoon bath). Anyway...when we think back...Habibi has not been stricken by cough and cold for so many months...so we have to be very thankful to Allah The Almighty. We should positively take this as a test for us as parents.

We brought him to the nearby private clinic and he was prescribed with antibiotic, paracetamol and cough syrup. It has been a very hard job to make him take the medicines. We have to chase him around......get well Habibi....wishing you a speedy recovery...!

Handy-Manny

My hubby is a creative 'handy-manny' person who is very fond of 'tools'. He owns almost everything a carpenter has in store.

So every time he is on-task..Habibi will always be there too to 'help' him out with the project. Our hero is very much attracted to the tools and tries very hard to touch them. Usually, he will end up with tears as Ayah won't let him disturb the tools. So we decided to buy him a set of tools to make him happy and indirectly make him learn something about being a carpenter.

Luckily we found them at Hua Ho at a very good price. When he saw the tools set, he just could not wait till home to open the pack. There was a smile upon his cute face.....which had made my hubby and I happy too.

Crazily Addicted to Mee Mamak

My hubby and I had our brunch last week at Kayu Nasi Kandar Restaurant at Beribi. I was craving for noodles lately. We had the mee mamak with fried chicken or in English 'Indian style noodle with fried chicken'.The brunch would not complete without the ginger milk tea.

In less than five minutes, our orders arrived at our table. It looked very awfully yummy. And I think it is proper for me to confess that it was really a love at first bite!!!

Hiya everyone! I have been very silent for few days..although I miss this blogging stuff. My silence was due to the busy schedules at school, poor phone connection and being so very tired too. So only today I can do some updates in order to cheer up my ever pink & black bloggie..

Below are the pictures of my kids working as a team (I would call The 'A' Team) to build the block tower. Habibi was more focus this time. He managed to keep the stack of blocks stable with the help of his sissy Habibati. I observed them and took some snaps while they were on task. At the end, they clapped their hands together merrily...to mark their job accomplishment. I'm really proud of them...and I believe all mothers in the whole wide world are too.....

Our Jolly Time At JollyBee

This end of year holiday..we do not go abroad thinking that the kids are still very small. We are planning to go for a holiday abroad whenever they understand to the word 'NO'....*chuckles* . To have fun, we spent time at the kids' favourite spot 'Jollybee'. It was actually their very first time to be freed to play at the in-door playground. However, they have to be guarded strictly especially our superhero Habibi.

He seemed to dominate the playground. Our two maids had to stay close to him as he joyfully climbed, jumped and slided with full of energy. The other children had to wait up till he was done with his slide. Habibati was easier to handle. When it was time for the spaghetti break, Habibi still wanted to carry on with his mission. So my hubby, Habibati and I enjoyed the delicious spaghetti while watching Habibi playing and the maids had to act as his securities.It was in deed our jolly time!

~A Night To Remember~

Last Saturday night, we rushed Habibati to JPMC Paediatric Ward as she developed some kind of rashes on her skin. It was around 8.30 p.m. while watching her favourite Mickey Mouse Club House, I noticed she was continuously scratching her face, hands and feet. I thought they were just the mosquito bites. Then, when I felt something was wrong with her facial skin, I took a closer look under the bright light. What I saw? There are red bumps all over her facial skin as well as her hands and feet. So off we blitzed to JPMC and luckily Doctor Victor Roy (Habibati's paed specialist) was on his night shift.

After the examination, Dr Roy convinced us that there was nothing much to be worried about because it was an allergy. He prescribed her with Prednisolone soluble tablets and Chlorpheniramine syrup. I gave her the medicines using the syringe while she was sleeping. The doctor advised us to stay in the ward for two and a half hours in order to observe the effect of the medicines. Only Allah knows how I felt during those 'heart-throbbing' moments, deep in my heart praying to Allah for Habibati's recovery. And alhamdullilah, we were allowed to go home when the doctor observed her improvement.

It was really a night to remember!

Gulai Pucuk Paku - KakLin's Recipe

This is a traditional Malay recipe shared by the understanding KakLin. The taste was very deliciously finger-licking. My hubby loved it too. Here in Brunei we call this fern sayur 'pakis' and it can be found easily around the roadways. I usually cook it by just pan-frying or sometimes I make it into 'kerabu'. Thus I requested KakLin to share this recipe with me because I really wanted to taste this new way of cooking it. While my hubby was looking for Habibati's stickers at a gift shop nearby, Habibi and I just stayed in the car. As usual,Habibi would move around the car seats. I let him do anything he wanted but I had to keep an eye on all his movements.He finally found a 'peaceful' place. Then he smiled when I captured his actions. Drivers passing by had to look twice at us...when they realized something unusual came into their sights!

I have tried it for dinner.The ingredients comprised fresh kue teow, fresh baby corns, fish cakes, blue shrimps, chopped chicken, carrots, oyster sauce and black pepper sauce. How to cook?

It's as simple as abc...

First, fry the chopped garlics till fragrant. Then pop the carrot and young corn slices in. Fry them for a while then put in the oyster sauce and black pepper sauce. Pour in the chicken stock (prepared earlier) so that it looks like a soup. Wait till it boils then pop in the chicken meat, fish cakes and the blue shrimps. Mix some corn flour with a little water in a bowl and then pour it into the boiling soup. Mix them well until the soup thickens.
Something new or special about this recipe is that eggs are not blended with the boiling soup but with the fresh kue teow instead. Then in a wok, the fresh kue teow plus eggs are fried together for a while.The colour of the kue teow after being fried was fabulously golden. Served hot in a bowl, the fried kue teow is bathed with the thick soup. It's time to enjoy the mouthwatering recipe. I highly recommend the love-to-cook gangs out there to have a try....

The School's End Of School Term

Here the school break is on already till early next year. On the very last day of the academic calender, we celebrated the end of the school term by 'makan-makan' and lucky draws. It was undoubtedly fun. Together we set the rule for the lucky draws that every teacher should contribute a present which costs BND20 above. So in the end every one would come home with a present. Indirectly I would say that we exchanged presents for fun! Remember the 'barter trade system'....?

So as the foods for the "party"...teachers generously brought in what ever they could cook. It was almost like a 5-star hotel's lunch buffet. I was so highly tempted to taste every scoop of the delicacies. It seemed my dish was running out of space!

I bought a multi-purpose basket with stand and it was numbered 15 (my hubby's fav number). And the above picture shows my lucky strike, numbered four.

Habibi And The Beetle

It's all because of being very curious. Early in the morning, Habibi had another encounter with a creepy crawly. It's a beetle. He trailed the beetle and even touched it.These are few shots of his actions.

This brave little man is also attracted to small spiders, ants, moths and butterflies. We don't really mind him trailing or going upclose with the creatures...but...the only thing makes us crazy (especially me) is when he touches them! Little does he know about the danger of touching them...hmmmmm....Habibi..Habibi...Ummi and Ayah bet you are gonna be a vet or an entomologist one day! Who knows yea...

Habibi and Habibati are now becoming friendly with pen and markers.They love to scribble. I let them scribble because I want them to enhance their fine motor skills. When they get so carried away...these are the results.The walls of the living room, dining room, bedroom and kitchen have turned into the kids' very own art gallery.

The wall next to the console table could not escape from having the 'facelift'.

The rubber mats are no longer plain because they are now having a design on them.....

Only yesterday afternoon, I was dumbfounded to spot another 'priceless masterpiece' on the bedroom walls.

Making Apam Balik At School

We have a good time at school when there was another cooking demonstration carried out. It was demonstrated by MummyHanan. She brought in the apam balik pans and made the mixture herself.

I even tried to make one for myself. So easy to make....to delicious to eat....

Apam balik is also called 'kueh malaya' here in Brunei. The popularity is still at its peak...anyone's favourite though! For me, I love to add more raisins and cream corn.

I'm wearing contact lenses during the day but at night I put on my glasses. The kids always ask me to take the glasses off because they are eager to try them on. I have to dissapoint them even though they cry for them!! So on Saturday after having our early dinner outside, we dropped by a gift shop and bought the kids a pair of sunglasses each. I just couldnot wait to hand them over the kids because I know both of them longed to own ones. I took Habibati's pictures in actions but not Habibi. He got over-excited that none of the shots were ok. I will try to get Habibi's actions the soonest.

Making Cakoi At School

Today at school, we had a chance to watch a 'cakoi making demonstration' by our understanding PGB. Many teachers joined to contribute some helps in the process of making the popular kueh. The love-to-cook MummyHanan was there too....she was frying the cakoi...looking so professional leeee....*grin*

The dip was new to us, it was a special recipe from a teacher from Perak. We used to eat the cakoi with 'kaya' and margerine'. But this one was called 'pecal dip'. So delicious...

At The Barber Shop

Habibi had a haircut. Ayah brought him to the nearby typical barber shop. The barber was a kind Indian but Habibi, as usual, was very reluctant to the 'hair-cutting matter'. I was there too to witness the situation as Ayah said earlier that there would always be a 'wrestling game' before the cutting session started. It was true! Just look at the pictures...

The session lasted for half an hour and Ayah paid only BND2. If only Habibi had sat still and let the barber cut his hair in peace...it would have just taken less than ten minutes to have it done. *Chuckled* Habibi...Habibi...

Habibi's Adventure

Habibi had a good time doing his explorations as we let him free outside the grannies' house. Under a strict supervision, we observed his interactions with the nature. He babytalked to himself while holding a small dried stick. He went upclose with the beautiful bourgainvilla (Is the spelling correct?) flowers. My hubby and I were very glad to see this little man carrying out his adventure but NOT until......

....we noticed that....

..... Habibi was trailing something crawly...it was a millipede!

To my surprise...I didnot expect Habibi would be so brave to touch it. In a split second, I took him away quickly to the nearby water tap and washed his hands thoroughly with some antibacterial liquid. I wondered...what if he ever had an encounter with something poisonous?

Our Fruity Sunday

We went to Kg Kiudang (my in-laws' place) where we spent most of the time in their very old 'dusun buah'. There were rambutans, durians and kepayang during this season which were ready to be picked/harvested/collected. I knew I would be victimized by the stingy mosquitoes so ....earlier....I put on the insect repellent cream.

My hubby was proud to have found the fallen durians in hidden in the bushes. Next pix -> Me eating away the the sweet and juicy rambutans. Next to it -> my happy SIL with her durians.

My mother in-law was skinning the 'kepayang' fruits. This is called 'kepayang' fruits in Brunei. Nowadays, these fruits are coming to their extinction period..it is hard to find such fruits anymore. The edible part is actually the seeds. Only the old folks know well how to process them into 'budu' or eaten alone after being repeatedly boiled. I bet some of you have not seen such fruits...am I right?

I really like this shot...these worn out shoes really did well in the 'jungle'!

Habibati's Appointment with Dr Roy

This afternoon Habibati had an appointment with Dr Roy at JPMC Paediatric for a general health assessment and a DTap/HIB vaccination. She was fully asleep when the vaccination was given to her and of course she woke up and cried loudly as soon as the needle got into her soft skin. I felt sorry for her but this had to be carried out.

There we still could see the picture of Habibati when she was born on the 'thank you card' that we gave. We loved to see the display of cards and pictures of the babies born there.

Then after that, as usual, she wanted to see the horses at the ranch outside the private hospital. She was very cranky...so off we drove along the ranch to see her favourite mammals. My hubby and I laughed at her when she kept on uttering 'hosh' 'hosh' which she meant 'horse'.
After that we had some tea at Nadj Restaurant (opps! I forgot to capture the foods that we ordered). Habibati sat on the high chair and enjoyed her time scribbling away...while we were enjoying our teatime.
